Abstract
Cervical cancer is the most frequent occurring gynaecologic malignancy world-wide. Approximately 492.000 women develop cervical cancer and 274.000 die from it each year (global estimate for 2002). Less developed countries display the highest cervical cancer incidence rates due to lack of effective screening programs. Sexually transmittec infection with high-risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV, mainly HPV16 and HPV18, is the primary risk factor for the development of cervical cancer and its precursor lesions. ...
