Organic field-effect transistor characteristics were improved in the past years by implementation of novel processing techniques. However, the charge carrier mobility remains limited. In this context, our efforts focus on the understanding of the microscopic processes that determine the value of the mobility in molecular crystals, in particular the generation and migration of defects. The work aims not only at improving the performance of organic materials for possible incorporation in devices, but also at satisfying the pressing need for insight into the relevant physical processes that govern the electrical conduction in these materials.
