Abstract

The ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic states of La(FexAl1-x)13 were studied by neutron diffraction and magnetostriction measurements. We present a model for the magnetic structure of the antiferromagnetic state, consisting of ferromagnetic clusters, coupled antiferromagnetically. Magnetostriction data exhibit a strong Invar character and contain information about the origin of the magnetic moments.
