Abstract
Breast cancer patients without apparent distant metastases at the time of primary tumor removal, may later suffer from a distant relapse, indicating the presence of occult micrometastases at the time of diagnosis. Sensitive methods to detect micrometastatic
breast cancer may be helpful in optimizing treatment for breast cancer patients. It may facilitate the selection of patients for early systemic 'adjuvant' therapy and the evaluation of response to adjuvant therapy.
