Abstract

The Bethlehem-birth stories in Matthew and Luke are historically problematic for several well known reasons. A historically layered re-examination of all references to Jesus' origin in the NT show that he was known to be from Nazareth. Although we do not know where he was born, Nazareth has a stronger claim than Bethlehem.
