Abstract
This article discusses the results of two separate studies examining how people with psychosis from two large cohort samples evaluate their financial situation and which factors play a role in these evaluations. In both studies, approximately one quarter of participants with psychosis assessed their financial situation negatively. This is considerably higher than among family members or in the general population. The negative evaluation appears to be partly related to substance use, but is otherwise found in a heterogeneous group of people with psychosis. Financial concerns are an important source of stress. The authors call for greater awareness of this under-addressed issue among professionals who support people with psychosis, so that timely referral to appropriate support can be provided when needed.
