Abstract
In this thesis, a patient centered development and clinical evaluation of an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is described. The AFO, named ADJUST, compensates for paretic ankle muscles without limiting normal ankle range of motion. Mechanical evaluation shows that ADJUST can meet all requirements. Clinical evaluation shows that walking with ADJUST is feasible and can even be beneficial when compared to existing AFOs, especially when walking down-hill. By submitting a patent by a partner in the industry, an important step is made towards further the development of ADJUST.
