Abstract
Large scale randomized clinical trials are needed to detect small but meaningful effects of new drugs. However, large scale randomized clinical trials are expensive undertakings and they are in imbalance with the scientific output. As a consequence there is a strong voice for more efficacious randomized clinical trials making new affordable drugs available for patients. The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate several different aspects of randomized clinical trials in order to improve the efficiency in conducting randomized clinical trials.
