    Abstract

    Project management is a cyclical process with overlapping stages feeding back and forth in the course of project completion. The complex task of managing projects is frequently tackled with the aid of the Project Management Cycle (PMC), which is also used as the basis for programmes carried out by several non-profit organisations. PMC is a tool that helps humanitarian aid workers in structuring their thoughts on how to offer support, monitor work in progress and evaluate the work completed. After illuminating key areas of project management, this chapter describes the main components of the PMC, namely project identification, project design, planning and proposal writing and implementation with a closer look at monitoring and evaluation.
