Proximale humerusfracturen bij kinderen, veelal een overbehandelde fractuur?

Most proximal humeral fractures in children can be treated conservatively because of the good healing tendency and the remodeling capacity of the proximal humerus during childhood. But as the age of the child increases, the corrective ability of displaced proximal humeral fractures decreases. Therefore in case of relatively ‘older’ children with large malalignments physicians are more inclined to intervene surgically. We present a case with successful conservative treatment of a child with a serious displaced proximal humeral fracture. The displacement exceeded the boundaries of acceptable displacements according to the current knowledge by far. The remodeling capacity of proximal humeral fractures in children, associated with the functional recovery, seems to be better than is currently stated in literature.
