N2 - The biosynthetic pathways leading to high-value natural products, including a wide range of potent drugs, are a particularly promising target for the new approaches of synthetic biology. Their intrinsic modularity lends itself to creative re-engineering at multiple spatial and temporal scales, with the aim of awakening silent biosynthetic pathways, creating novel chemical diversity, or optimizing production efficiency.
