Abstract
I will review our current understanding of the assembly of stellar halos
from a theoretical perspective. I will place particular emphasis on how
observations of Local Group galaxies can be used to constrain the
assembly history of both their stellar and dark matter halos. Finally I
will focus on what we have learned so far and what upcoming surveys will
be able to tell us about the process galaxy formation in a cosmological
setting.
