The image of 'Water management' and the UMCU theoretical framework of spiritual care in the case of mister B. A critical response to the case study of W. Blokland

    Abstract

The contribution focuses on the strengths and limitations of the presented UMCU model of spiritual care in relation to the encounter with mister B. as described in a case study (roughly based on the structure of G. Fitchett) The idea of opposite language games (treatment versus existential) is confronted with its disadvantages; the empowering and essential contribution of the patient is made more visible and concepts as 'space' and a 'relational thinking modus' as well as a specific mourning theory are been put forward from a psychological perspective to a better understanding of mr. B as well as the encounter as a whole.Conference: day 1: Describing what chaplains do: case studies in chaplaincy.
