Abstract
The Michelson-Morley experiment suggests the hypothesis that the two-way speed of light is constant,and this is consistent with a more general in variance than that of Lorentz. On adding the requirement that physical laws have the same form in all inertial frames, as Einstein did, the transformation specializes to that of Lorentz.
