Abstract

In this research I analyse the school formation processes of the two largest research groups that are established in Dutch sociology after '1968': Explanatory sociology (in Utrecht, Groningen and Nijmegen) and Figurational sociology (in Amsterdam). School formation is a phenomenon that has been studied intensively by researchers interested in academic developments and its social aspects. In various ways the social and cognitive have been connected.
