Abstract
This contribution provides for an overview of simplified criminal proceedings in five European countries (Belgium, Germany, France, Norway and Switzerland). This chapter discusses the background of these procedures, their place within the respective criminal law systems and statistic information on the effectiveness of the proceedings. In conclusion, the chapter discusses the various lessons that the Dutch legislator can drawn from experiences with simplified proceedings in the countries discussed.
