Abstract

Recent developments in Foucauldian interpretations of neoliberalism in terms of biopolitics and governmentality, especially those focusing on the neoliberal subject, seem to provide an interesting tool to analyze and criticize 21st century policies, practices, research and discussions regarding citizenship education. The same frame also raises the more fundamental question whether citizenship can be a justifiable (morally sound) objective or aim of education.
