Abstract
The data processing of a number of current astronomical projects require an intelligent data handling system which can satisfy the requirements both from users processing the data and users exploring the result. We present the WISE Concept of Scientific Information Systems which has been used in a number of data processing systems in Astronomy. In this paper we review its origin and principal components. We discuss particularly the new developments which allow WISE based
systems to be deployed with less effort to a greater variety of projects.
