Abstract

This article is on two related freehold families living in northern Groningen in the sixteenth century with several connections with Drenthe families. Originally being part of the rural sub-elite with quite a lot of landownership and some connections to the urban Groningen magistrate, the members mostly lost their positions from th end of the sixteenth century onwards, with part of the descendants living in the city of Groningen. The article gives an overview of both the family relations and the economic position of each of the family members involved from the early sixteenth century until the end of the seventeenth century.
