Abstract
In the fifties fractures of the zygomatic bone and arch were of relatively rare occurrencein the Netherlands. During the past ten years, however, the number of these types of fractures trebled. About l5 years ago diagnosis and treatment of fractures of the zygoma were too strongly directed to the fracture itself and insufficient attention was paid to disturbance in vision. The sometimes resulting late ophthalmic complications, which cannot easily be corrected, however, lead to an over-valuation of these ophthalmological aspects, so that several authors came to speak of orbital fractures. ...
