During Session VI ("Art, Mind and Well-being") of the Spring School "Medieval and Early Modern Studies – History of Emotions" 2o25, Jacomien Prins provided insight in the role of music in medieval and early modern thought about emotions, the soul, and well-being. This was followed by lectures by Nicole Ruta and Gemma Schino on how specific characteristics of the pictorial space of Trecento Sienese and Florentine artistic tradition seem to reflect patterns of our imagination and visual perception, and on the use of Bodily Sensation Maps (BSM) to art-elicited emotions, with a focus on digital contemporary art, respectively. Together they introduced participants to their joint research into the role that text plays in Reformation art (specifically, crucifixion paintings) in eliciting different kinds of emotional and bodily responses.
