The sixth episode of the DPT CCI Webinar series, Cutting Crime Impact — Police analysis and communication tool to support effective information-enhanced patrolling, took place on Wednesday 8 September at 16.00 CEST.

The topic of this webinar was Predictive Policing — one of the four focus areas of the CCI project.

Attendees heard from Maurice Illi from the Competence Center for Urban Security (KURBAS) at the State Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA) in Lower Saxony, Germany, a CCI project partner. Maurice discussed PATROL — a tool created by the LKA as part of the CCI project. The PATROL Tool is tailored to the local policing context and includes various elements that support comprehensive information processing and more effective internal communication, thus enabling an intelligence-enhanced approach to patrolling.

In addition, Dr Chiara Ryffel from the Centre for Diagnostics, Traffic and Safety Psychology (ZDVS) at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) discussed the critical importance of information in decision-making and taking effective action. Chiara discussed how poor communication and a lack of information in High Reliability Organisations (HRO) can result in inadequate actions that in turn lead to critical incidents.

The session was moderated by Oskar Gstrein from the University of Groningen, Assistant Professor at the Department of Governance and Innovation, Campus Fryslân.
