Humour has largely evaded the attention of most social-psychological research on collective action. Exploring this topic would enrich our understanding of the psychological underpinnings of protest. This talk presents a thematic analysis of interviews with activists in Amnesty International and German antifa, highlighting ways in which humour can influence (de-) escalation of collective action.
