    Description

2010–present: Site Historian for excavation at Horvat Tsalit (or Chaalit), Negev, Israel, with Ben-Gurion University archaeologists H. Goldfus and P. Fabian. This was a small town inhabited only from the mid-first century BCE to the mid-second century CE. First season: July 10–August 5, 2011. Second season scheduled: July 27–August 8, 2014, but postponed to 2015. My Research Chair at York University co-sponsored this dig, and I arranged for York student participation. Otherwise I participate in the excavation and offer afternoon lectures on relevant historical topics for the student volunteers. I remain in close contact with several Israeli archaeologists and visit ongoing digs in annual visits to the region.
