Student well-being in times of COVID-19. Predictors in the academic learning environment

During the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education is affected by inevitable changes in the learning environment, such as online teaching and less physical contact. This research focuses on individual factors and factors in the learning environment that affect university students' well-being. Here, we look at factors such as tolerance of uncertainty, resilience, self-compassion and fulfilment of basic psychological needs in the learning environment. In this cross-sectional study, students at the University of Groningen were questioned about these factors and their well-being through a questionnaire. Initial results show that 70% of students fall into the category of 'reduced well-being'. Self-compassion and resilience appear to be important predictors of well-being.
