The Politics of Archiving the Border. Memory, Law and Creative Methods

Activiteit: Academic presentationAcademic

Description

As border regimes are increasingly resorting to violence, scholars, activists and artists have begun
to systematically document evidence of human rights violations, as well as struggles of solidarity.
A multitude of archives has emerged to trace both the legacy of colonialism and social
movements into the present, and to actively ensure their remembrance in the future. This doctoral
school explores the promises and conundrums of this politics of archiving by tracing the relations
between collective memory and law, between borders and solidarities, and between creative
methods and epistemological debates. In face of the concurrent authoritarian turn, what actions,
peoples and movements do we render visible, and when do we keep such archives underground?
How can scholars, activists and artists jointly create live archives that connect the past, present
and the future? And how should this transform the way we conduct research and produce
knowledge about migration?
