The main topics of our current research are:

  1. The regulation and function of sleep with special emphasis on the role of sleep in neuronal plasticity and memory processes
  2. The neurobiological and neuroendocrine consequences of chronically restricted or disrupted sleep with an emphasis on systems involved in cognitive function and emotional regulation.

Part of this research is based on the hypothesis that chronically insufficient sleep may contribute to the development of cognitive disturbances and mood disorders such as depression.
