Adriana Tami heads the Epidemiology of Tropical and Infectious Diseases group (EPITROP) at the UMCG.
She has worked on malaria epidemiology, molecular diversity and drug resistance in the Venezuelan Amazon, The Gambia and Tanzania. She also focuses on arboviral diseases of importance such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya. She has been involved in the analysis of the health situation during the current humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, her country of origin. She currently leads COVID-19 projects in the Netherlands (https://www.umcg.nl/-/covid-home) and Venezuela as part of the ZIKAlliance and ORCHESTRA EU-funded international consortiums.
The focus of EPITROP is broad and encompasses clinical and field epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, temporo-spatial analysis of disease spread, qualitative studies and public health of infectious diseases in the tropics and sub-tropics. The aim is to identify ways to better target surveillance and control measures and improve preparedness against epidemics of important arboviruses such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
