My research focusses on the resilience and wellbeing of local communities living in vulnerable regions, and on the social dimension of planned interventions, crises and disasters. I also investigate the failures of top-down planning approaches, and research on the role of Social Impact Assessment (SIA) to enhance disaster risk reduction (DRR), community wellbeing and resilience, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In my previous PhD research I focussed on local community resilience, DRR, preparedness, response, recovery, reconstruction, sustainable mountain development and the role of Social Impact Assessment to enhance DRR and resilience, before and after the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake (Abruzzo, Italy). Before my PhD, my previous role was as a social sciences consultant in L'Aquila, introducing Social Impact Assessment in reconstruction and sustainable mountain development projects. In 2015, I was awarded the Rita R. Hamm Impact Assessment Excellence Scholarship by the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA).
