Benjamin Bewersdorf

Benjamin Bewersdorf completed his PhD in formal epistemology with distinction at the University of Konstanz, Germany in 2012. His postgraduate studies included one year visits at the University of Massachusetts and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA.

After a short appointment as postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Konstanz between 2012 and 2013, he worked as postdoctoral research fellow at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands from 2013 until 2017. During this time, he published on probabilistic accounts of epistemic justification and problems in Bayesian epistemology.

Since 2017 Bewersdorf has been Lecturer in Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University College Groningen. He has developed and taught a wide range of courses including Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Mind, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, Basic Statistics, Introduction to Academic Research and Academic Writing. His teaching is interdisciplinary, combining insights from Philosophy, Psychology and Economics and makes use of innovative teaching methods such as active learning, project and game based learning, flipped classrooms and blended learning. He received a fellowship for innovation of teaching in 2017.

During the years 2017-2021 Benjamin Bewersdorf was Senior Tutor and responsible for setting up the academic guidance structure of the college. Between 2022 and 2023 Benjamin Bewersdorf was appointed Community of Practice Leader at the Teaching Academy of the University of Groningen. He led the Communities of Practice on Blended Learning as well as on AI in Education and hosted multiple workshops on teaching innovation.

Since 2023 Benjamin Bewersdorf has been the Academic Director of Education at the University College.

Bewersdorf has recently become interested in the relationship between Art and Philosophy and has written two forthcoming peer reviewed chapters on this subject together with three of his students.
