Persoonlijk profiel

Speerpunten

I am an assistant Prof. at the University of Groningen, specialised in the field of cosmology. Topics I have worked on include inflationary model building, cosmic microwave background theory and data analysis, gravitational waves, the epoch of reionisation and 21 cm cosmology. I am the PI of the VIDI proposal 'the cosmic laboratory'. I have leading roles in two upcoming ground based CMB experiments, the Simons Observatory and CCATp. I am also involved in the Radio Experiment For the Analysis of Cosmic Hyrdogen (REACH).

In recent years I have explored AI as a new avenue to search for signatures of new physics in cosmlogical data. This is a direction which I think has a lot of potential as long as we have means to cross-check with more conservative methods.

Daan Meerburg obtained his PhD cum laude from the University of Amsterdam in 2011 under the supervision of Jan Pieter van der Schaar and Ralph Wijers.  He was a Rubicon fellow at Princeton, a CITA fellow at the University of Toronto, and a senior Kavli fellow in Cambridge before starting a faculty job at the University of Groningen in 2019. He obtained a Templeton grant in 2012 and a VIDI grant in 2017. He was part of the Planck team and currently has a leading role in the next-generation ground based CMB experiments, the Simons Observatory and CCATp. He is also involved in REACH, a global 21cm experiment. His expertise focuses on the interplay between theoretical and observational cosmology, with a strong emphasis on the cosmic microwave background.
