I started my PhD at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) on the 1st of October 2020. I study the role of ferroptosis in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease by using a brain-on-a-chip platform and human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). My main research interest is studying the role of ferroptosis, the iron-related and lipid-peroxidation-driven type of cell death, in neurodegeneration with a focus on how neuron-glia interaction as well as mitochondrial dynamics and function can be affected.
During my PhD journey, I have had the opportunity to yearly participate in the teaching of two different courses, Advanced Human Disease Model Technologies in 3rd year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy, and Pathology course in the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience Master program. My teaching approach focuses on innovative methods and collaborative learning, aiming to instill deep subject understanding and enhance critical thinking skills. I am dedicated to continuously improving my teaching methods, staying updated with the latest advancements, and inspiring a love for lifelong learning.
I also enjooy mentoring master students, fostering their academic growth and love for science. I have successfully guided two talended Master students, both achieving grades of 9/10, who went on to pursue PhD degrees, further fueling their passion for research.
