Triple crisis meets trilateral cooperation: Effects of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution on salt marshes & pathways to their sustainable management

The Wadden Sea salt marshes are unique landscapes under pressure of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution. Novel sustainable management scenarios are urgently needed to safeguard their Outstanding Universal Value (OUV). Based on research on the impact of the pressures we develop guiding principles and different sustainable management scenarios to safeguard the OUV of Wadden Sea salt marshes. The research is implemented with lab studies and field work in Dutch, German and Danish salt marshes. We collaborate with stakeholders from nature conservation, coastal protection, agriculture, and tourism, and with activities at secondary schools to involve future generations.
