title = "3D Imaging Technology{\textquoteright}s Narrative Appropriation in Cinema",
abstract = "This chapter traces the cinematic history of stereoscopy by focusing on the contemporary dispute about the values of 3D technology, which are seen as either mere visual attraction or as a technique that perfects the cinematic illusion through increasing perceptual immersion. By taking a neutral stance, the author proposes a shift in how we approach 3D. He argues that we should amend the general concern from “Will the 3D revolution happen?” to “Will the 3D revolution happen if 3D remains a visual-aesthetic attraction?” In this regard, the issue of the technology{\textquoteright}s narratively motivated utilization, through which 3D could stabilize its position in the film business, is considered.",
