    Samenvatting

In this article the experiences of three Dutch travelers (the authors Everhardus Johannes Potgieter, Gerard Keller and Marcellus Emants) are discussed. They found an exotic environment. Most important, through their presentations of Swedish culture life and literature, they acted as `cultural transmitters' who paved the way for a visible `turn' regarding Swedish society and culture in the nineteenth century in the Netherlands.
