Samenvatting

This paper describes a modified volume-of-fluid method for the simulation of wave impact problems at moving bodies. The method is based on the Navier-Stokes equations that describe the motion of incompressible viscous fluid flow. The equations are discretised on a fixed Cartesian grid using a finite volume method. The geometry of the body is piecewise linear, resulting in cut cells. The displacement of the free surface is done using the volume-of-fluid method combined with a local height function to prevent flotsam and jetsam. In this paper some validation results of the method are presented. First, the method has been tested on the simulation of steep waves. Second, a breaking dam flow has been simulated, where the results are compared with available experimental measurements. Finally, results of a simulation of green water on the deck of a moving ship are shown.
