    Samenvatting

The work described in the thesis focuses on computer simulation algorithms to compute the electronic properties of exotic materials such as graphene. The effects of disorder on the electronic properties of these materials are studied and the fingerprints of the different kinds of disorder are identified. The same simulation method is also used to scrutinize simplified descriptions of the dynamics of a magnetic particle interacting with a large magnetic environment.
