    Samenvatting

All together the studies in this thesis show that autophagy is an essential survival mechanism for both normal hematopoietic and AML cells and MDS erythroblasts. Altered expression of autophagy-associated genes might have consequences for drug resistance. Therefore, these findings suggest that inhibition of autophagy might be a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of AML.
