Samenvatting

Complex segments are speech sounds with a heterogeneous phonetic structure that behave like single sounds and unlike clusters. These include affricates, pre- and post-nasalized stops, doubly-articulated consonants, secondary-articulated consonants and diphthongs. Complex segments have played an important role in various developments in theoretical phonology, especially how features are organized and how segments are mapped onto prosodic structure.
