In order to achieve the 1.5 degree average global warming goal as set by the Paris agreement, a steep increase of investments is required. Some researchers estimate an increase of these investments from $300 billion to $1 trillion per year is required. This contribution briefly discusses the development of the fossil fuel divestment movement and if the movement can contribute to an increase in the required investments.
