Samenvatting
The basilica of Santa Maria del Lauro in Meta (Naples) is a centuries-old structure that over time underwent several transformations. The fifth reconstruction of the religious building, which took place in the second half of the 16th century, is particularly interesting to investigate. Apart from some changes due to restoration works, its current structure, with the characteristic domes, dates back to that period. As part of a wider research, this paper aims at deepening the
knowledge about the events related to the construction of 16th-century dome structures in the Sorrento Peninsula, of which the building analyzed represents a relevant case study. Starting from a broader glance on the whole building, the paper highlights the diachronic evolution of the domes in their material conditions through the crossreading of bibliographical and archival sources.
