Indonesian students’ academic engagement and the role of teachers’ teaching behavior

Samenvatting

In Chapter 5, Maulana, Irnidayanti, Fokkens-Bruinsma, and Helms-Lorenz examine Indonesian students’ academic engagement and its relationship with teachers’ teaching behavior. Their analyses showed that student engagement was predicted by different domains of teaching behavior, even after controlling for background factors. Importantly, teaching behavior related to clarity of instruction and teaching learning strategy appeared as stronger and more stable predictors of student engagement. They end their chapter by proposing implications of their findings for research and practice in Indonesia.
