    Samenvatting

Cell-and gene-based therapies form one of the pillars of regenerative medicine. This chapter reviews the recent progress in applying advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) with a focus on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), besides an emphasis on covering in-depth the administration routes for cell and gene therapy medicinal products. The authors will provide a practical overview of the two cell types in myocardial regeneration, drug development, and cardiac disease modeling, besides the administration routes for ATMPs in patients with cardiovascular diseases, including refractory angina and chronic heart failure. Remarkably, the three-dimensional NOGA-XP cardiac mapping system allows for electromechanical assessment of the myocardial viability delineating target zones for cells or gene constructs delivery. This chapter will also focus on clinical aspects and current strategies for ATMPs therapies in recent and prospective clinical trials.
