Samenvatting

An insulinoma is a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas, arising from the β-cell, resulting in endogenous hyperinsulinemia. This causes hypoglycemia with neurogycopenic symptoms. Diagnosis of insulinoma starts with demonstrating elevated insulin during a spontaneous hypoglycemia or a hypoglycemia can be provoked by a 72-h fasting test. Most insulinomas are benign and localized to the pancreas and can be surgically resected. Rare metastastic insulinomas are treated with diazoxide or somatostatin analogues.
