Samenvatting
Continuous learning in daily practice is essential for care professionals to deliver high-quality care. Learning networks are considered promising tools to facilitate such learning and to embed learning into regular working processes. However, there is insufficient understanding of how learning networks should be designed and how they contribute to learning to provide person-centred care. The study is part of a ZonMw funded research project ‘LeerSaam Noord’, which aims to enhance the professionalization of the nurses and nurse assistants and promote person-centred care. This article explores how learning occurs during network discussion meetings and identifies key success factors for learning across four different healthcare contexts during the initial phase of the research project. The study involves a thematic analysis of 11 network meetings where patient cases were discussed to reflect on care professionals’ practices. Results show how safety, as a shared value, in-depth reflective questioning, and selecting patient cases involving conflicting interests between patients and professionals fuel successful learning. Notably, professionals’ inner conflict between what is considered the patient’s self management and professional responsibility emerged as a significant factor.
