Samenvatting

We consider the analysis and optimization of maintenance policies for single non-repairable components. We start with two time-based maintenance policies: (1) age-based maintenance, in particular under uncertainty in the lifetime distribution of the component, and (2) block-based maintenance, in particular under random usage of the component. Thereafter, we consider various condition-based maintenance policies. We start with deterioration according to the delay-time model. Then, we continue with deterioration according to a gamma process and consider both policies with continuous monitoring and policies with periodic inspections. In the setting with continuous monitoring we will compare the performance of condition-based maintenance to that of time-based maintenance. We also describe an approach for discretizing continuous-time continuous-state deterioration processes into discrete-time Markov chains, and use this approach to analyze condition-based maintenance with continuous monitoring. Finally, the discretized deterioration process also allows us to optimize maintenance policies with dynamically scheduled aperiodic inspections.
