    Samenvatting

This thesis focuses on some of the potential applications of myocardial MRI imaging in the characterization of chronisch coronary syndromes. Cardiac MRI can provide accurate information on cardiac structure and function. In this thesis we present several topics: #1 the effects of smoking on cardiac structure and function #2 cardiac T1-mapping #3 synthetic LGE #4 the effects of recent caffeine ingestion on the accuracy of myocardial vasodilator MRI perfusion #5 the design paper for a large clinical trial in which we are investigating the potential of noninvasive imaging techniques (CT en MRI) to replace a substantial part of current invasive coronary angiographies.
