    Samenvatting

    This thesis traces the origins of three critical schools of thought in the area of Security Studies. It aims at showing how these schools have common sources in the Enlightenment thought and the idea of emancipation. It further explores the role of emancipation in these schools through an analysis of Global War on Terror through their lenses.
