Samenvatting
The survival of 522 patients, admitted to a psychogeriatric nursing home between 1966 and 1976, was compared with that of the Dutch population, after matching for age and sex. Survival rates were lower in the investigated population; this was particularly influenced by the relatively high mortality of the psychogeriatric patients, who comprised 74% of the investigated population. In women survival rates were better than in men. The survival of married patients was shorter than the same in single patients, while it in the very old was relatively shorter than in the younger group of aged persons.
