This very prestigious work has to be seen in the light of a preceding work by Wolfgang Haubrichs (et al.) which deals exclusively with Elisabeth of Lorraine-Vaudémont, Countess of Nassau-Saarbrücken (died 1456). After having explored Elisabeth, her status and her activities, this work investigates her environment in the broadest sense. In doing so the volume contextualizes in particular her literary work which was pioneering during the upcoming of the novel in the Early New High German language. The anthology contains densely written articles from different disciplines of the humanities and is enriched with wonderful visual material, however what impedes its accessibility is the absence of any form of index, even abstracts would have been helpful — a lack which can be mitigated by digitalization.
